Introducing…ME! I thought I would start off this blogging informative adventure by writing a bit about myself and my experience as an Instructional Designer. I have been working in education for almost 20 years. I have loved and hated many of those moments, but have learned from every second.
I started my career out of college as a 7th grade math teacher. I soon realized that this was not really for me and fell into my hobby of creating mosaic art. I soon started a business selling my work and supplies. After 7 years I decided that I really missed teaching so I entered back into the public section working with at risk youth to obtain their GEDs. I then landed a position as a corporate trainer in the aviation industry and found my niche.
In this position I created a training program that the FAA and AS9100 peeps thought was glorious. I grew my program to include all aspects of employee development. This is where I started creating e-learning courses using Adobe Captivate. I taught myself the program and figured out (by trial and error) what worked and didn’t work for a CBT. I had finally found what I was meant to do with my career!
I went on to find a position at a consulting firm as an instructional designer. I had to learn Articulate Storyline, which was pretty easy…much easier than Captivate. I now design training courses for every industry.
Oh and I also do public speaking and am an active member of the Association of Training and Development. I love helping others learn the trade and bring out the creativity in others.
That is the short and sweet of it! I plan to use this blog to educate others on tricks and tips that I have found while designing e-learning courses. Let the journey begin!
